Process
First the class will be given time to research different poem varieties, where they will explore different websites (listed on the resources page). Please click on link 1 to view different styles of poems that can be used for your Valentine heart. From there, the children will pick out a specific style of poem that they would like to use as a reference in creating their own Valentine’s Day poem, please view link 2. The children will be provided with colored paper appropriate for the Valentine’s holiday (pink, red, white, purple etc.) The children will first trace a heart that is large enough to fit their poem inside and then cut out the shape with scissors. Next, the students will creatively decorate their heart using markers, glue, and other materials like ribbon and lace. When the class has finished their projects, the cards will be displayed in the hallway outside the classroom door for the month of February. At the end of the month, the students will get to take home their finished Valentine’s Day cards to share with their families, please view link 3 for examples of these!
